KNOW ABUSE™ is a powerful educational curriculum
that engages tweens, teens, and college students in a peer-led open
and honest discussion about teen dating violence.

Available to public and private schools at no charge, the KNOW ABUSE™ curriculum can be incorporated into any teaching discipline, including Health, English, Physical Education, or Family Living curricula and meets the State of Ohio’s requirement to provide teen dating violence prevention (section 3303.60 of the Ohio Revised Code).

Peer Leadership Model

KNOW ABUSE™ is based on a peer-leadership model, an evidence-based learning approach that promotes greater learning and higher retention among students.  Participating schools can choose to have JFSA train students as school peer leaders chosen by school staff or schools can choose to have the curriculum delivered by trained college interns.

Education and Awareness

Lessons on healthy vs. unhealthy relationships, awareness of abuse forms, and recognition of warning signs increases knowledge and awareness among teens about the dynamics of healthy relationships and the signs of abuse, empowering them to identify and avoid harmful situations.

Empowerment and Prevention

Safety planning, coping strategies, and bystander intervention techniques empower teens with the tools and confidence to make safe choices, intervene safely in potentially harmful situations, and actively participate in preventing dating violence within their communities. This proactive approach helps prevent future abuse and promotes a culture of respect and safety.

Digital Safety and Privacy

Education on digital dating abuse, on-line privacy, and safety practices equips teens with the knowledge to navigate digital relationships safely, protecting themselves from on-line abuse and privacy invasions. This area is increasingly important in today’s digital age, where much of teen dating and social interaction occurs on-line.

Internships

JFSA offers paid internships to college students to serve as Peer Leaders who work with local high school and middle school students to understand teen dating violence and to learn how to build healthy relationships.  To apply for an internship, contact Samantha Clarke.
